When you start FreeTube <=0.40b it will automatically open the subscription page. It would be good to have a settings option allowing the choice of which page to open on - Subscription, Trending, Most Popular, Favorites, History,....

This is planned. Not sure where it will be on the roadmap yet but I'll make sure to include it in the future.

where is it possible to change this? I can't find any options that suggest this change in the settings menu

This issue was created well before the rewrite was released. During the transition, some features didn't make it for the initial release and this ended up being one of them. This will have to be re-implemented.
