Guidelines

  • I have searched the issue tracker for a feature request that matches the one I want to file, without success.
  • I have searched the documentation for information that matches the description of the feature request I want to file, without success.

Problem Description

Apparently, YouTube is currently testing a new feature to let users choose between several audio tracks provided by the video creator. For example, the “I Built Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory!” video by Mr. Beast has got russian, Spanish, Hindi, French and Portuguese translations. However, it's not possible to choose one within FreeTube. In fact, YouTube apparently automatically selects a language: In my case, I got the russian version for some reason.

Proposed Solution

Add an audio track switcher.

I would rather consider this a bug than an enhancement/feature request. Not being able to watch videos in the correct language on FreeTube, although the correct audio track exists on YouTube, is quite an annoying thing.

Something like this could potentially be used to allow switching from different audio tracks https://github.com/richterm/videojs-audio-switch

For anyone affected by this bug, a workaround that worked for me is to use legacy formats instead of DASH for the video.

I tried that, but it didn't work for selecting the English track to video like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63bUBEIhpNk

I encountered this issue today for the first time. For some reason, this video only played in Spanish audio. No VPN, but did have SponsorBlock enabled. Switching to legacy formats fixed it.
