Question: how to bump version to new major release in develop

I am working on a 4.0.0 release (I know it's the next version), but I haven't started a release branch (yet), so I am still on develop.

GitVersion determines that the next version would be 3.10.0 (previous was 3.9.0). How can I make sure that the builds on develop are already stamped as 4.0.0-unstable[x] instead of 3.10.0-unstable[x]?

I think NextVersion.txt also works for GitFlow. If it doesn't, then it should.. We also have #137 on the backlog to allow bumping via commit messages.

Other ideas how to solve this are welcome

Never heard of NextVersion.txt. (I did try to read the FAQ + examples). I will try to create a pull request for that (but so many pull requests going on in separate projects, need to finish my actual work as well ;-)).

NextVersion.txt doesn't work on dynamic repositories. I will look into this.

It looks like NextVersion.txt is only implemented in GitHubFlow and NextSemverCalculator.
