Crash on launch #610
Comments
The developer's advice helped me solve the problem:
|
This only helps if your issue is #609 |
Alternatively, if you enabled the default of following system theme, you can start the app with the system in dark mode. |
Thanks für the help, but I wiped the data and it worked. A bit annoying to enter everything again, but I was on the go and wanted to map :) |
Sorry for your extra work. Maybe there will be an alpha 2 soon with this fix... |
Hey Helium314, it's back. I had 3 crashes on SC today on launch, but on the forth one I could start SC and it was stable since then. Not so for SCEE. It's crashing on launch since this afternoon, and even now at night here I can't start it. So I guess it isn't #609, because this would mean it would run if I either start it at night or manually activate the system dark mode? |
Well it never went away in the first place 🥲 - it was only fixed in 46bb259, which is not yet released (i.e. the bug is still present in
I guess it would depend what was you SCEE setting for Only the third one (opening |
Same here. I had successfully used SCEE until about 5pm today. I have manually set the app to ‘dark mode’ since yesterday. When I started it again this evening, the app crashed immediately, even after several attempts.
I have tried this, but it does not work. The app crashes without showing up. Crash log: Log

updated to alpha 1.1 - still won't start |
No change for me either. Won't start. |
The only thing that helped was deleting all program data and importing settings |
@mcliquid that log has lines with So, waiting for maplibre/maplibre-native#2432 to implement the fix... It would be interesting to know if @mic140 and @RubenKelevra have the same error in log (if they can capture logcat output from their crashes, like with e.g. LogFox or adb and USB cable)... But if not, we can just wait it out until that MapLibre fix lands and try again then. Also, perhaps removing SCEE from recents or rebooting (instead of removing all of its data) might help to be able to start it again (see streetcomplete#5829 (comment))? |
App is stopped. (Force stop on the app details is greyed out.) Also wiping the cache does nothing. |
Can anyone who is having the crash try activity launcher to directly enter the settings? |
There are AFAICT some technical differences between force-stopping the app and removing it from "recent app list" (the former unconditionally killing background processes too, but the latter allowing the app to do the cleanups, which the former doesn't do); see e.g. https://android.stackexchange.com/a/20663/64465 Also for me, just quick restarting SC dozen times in a row sometimes recovers it. |
Yeah. But if the button is greyed out the app is not running anymore. That was the point I was trying to make. |
It still crashes: Screenrecorder-2024-08-24-15-51-45-720.mp4 |
Do you roughly what you did before the crashes started again? Looks like we'll have to wait for a new MapLibre release that includes maplibre/maplibre-native#2759 |
Oh, and did you try the offline-workaround mentioned in streetcomplete#5829? |
Well. Mapping I guess? 🤔 I think I had like 30 quests in the queue for uploading and opened the app so it would upload at home on wifi. Then I answered I think like 5 quests from memory. Then I switched apps. |
Alright, here's the crash log of SCEE if I just launch it (filtered for "streetcomplete"): And here's the crash log if I try to launch into the settings with activity launcher (filtered for "streetcomplete"): |
Thanks @RubenKelevra. Both of those logs (
That would be interesting to know if it helps? |
In airplane mode it crashes as well. Do you need a log for that? |
I don't think so... It's the same issue as upstream streetcomplete#5829, and the real fix is waiting for maplibre/maplibre-native#2759 to be implemented and included in next SC(EE) alpha/beta release. (feel free to go there give a like to that PR!) We were just trying to work out if there is some less annoying temporary workaround other then removing all data and reimporting all settings; but it appears that none of them happen to work for you. 😢 |
Yeah, no issue for me to map some days with JOSM instead if necessary :) I was just curious if it may be a different bug if it's not "fixed" by turning off the network. |
So, has this crash been fixed for you guys with SCEE 59.2? |
Will take a day or two to confirm, as it was running fine after the .1 update for a day or so and then started crashing on launch again. |
Fixed. :) |
SCEE 59.0 alpha 1 is crashing on launch.
Cleaning the cache did nothing. I had to wipe all data to get it not crash on start.
