Accessing Alternative Builds

Nicholas Ewalt edited this page Jul 9, 2020 · 19 revisions

Preface

There are a number of alternative versions of OVRdrop, some of which are intended for Compatibility purposes, others add additional experimental features, or fix small bugs which may or may not be mentioned in the change log.

You can access the public alternative builds through Steam, although some may require an access code to appear.

Accessing Alternative Builds

To select an alternative build, follow these steps:

  1. Locate OVRDrop in your Steam Library.

    • You can get here by Right-Clicking Steam in the System Tray, then clicking Library.
    • You can quickly locate OVRdrop by utilizing the Search feature in the Upper Left corner.
    • You may have to switch to Software, VR, or Installed, to see OVRdrop. It does not appear on the Games list.

Access Code List

Despite the fact these are secret access codes, some were created for public usage. Those codes are listed here, but be warned these are likely more experimental than normal, which is why they have access codes enabled.

[0] = For users who experience the gray/white screen issue. This is caused by undetermined differences between the v1.0.3 and v1.0.4 capture drivers, so v1.0.3 is still around for users whose system still rejects the new driver :/. Can you help?

[1] = Public experimental build. Directly upstream from main. Builds on this branch are being tested for final stability before becoming the default build.

[2] = Private experimental build. Directly upstream from experimental. Builds on this branch are likely to have lingering minor bugs and issues which the typical user would not expect, and is likely to encounter. Only use if you are prepared for the chance of unexpected issues.

[3] = Same as experimental_2 -- for users who lose access due to an unidentified Steam bug.

[4] = Undocumented for now (Sorry!), adds experimental Tracker support, causes some issues with device auto load.

Please Note: You may have to restart Steam if the build was added since you logged in.
