Developed under the guidance of CEN (Comité Européen de Normalisation), NeTEx simplifies and harmonises the exchange of passenger information across Europe. It is one of the data standards mandated by the European Commission under the ITS directive.
NeTEx provides a means to exchange data for passenger information such as stops, routes timetables and fares, among different computer systems, together with related operational data. It can be used to collect and integrate date from many different stakeholders, and to reintegrate it as it evolves through successive versions.
NeTEx in a Nutshell
🌐 Common Language: NeTEx serves as a common language, making it easier to exchange public transportation information among different computer systems.
🚌 Seamless Sharing: It acts as a bridge, enabling the smooth sharing of all planned (static) data that describes a public transport network such as vehicle stop details, routes, timetables, fares, and operational data.
🤝 Interoperable by design: As a Transmodel-based standard, NeTEx is interoperable with all other mobility EU standards in the realm of public transport (from conventional to alternative modes).
As a developer, you play a vital role in the NeTEx environment. You create, managed, and/or consume files that are using NeTEx format within the public transport industry. In this way, you contribute to better interoperability and seamless travel for all, thanks to a wide range of operational and passenger information applications. This GitHub is designed to enable you to use and understand NeTEx, but also to share your feedback and/or get involved in the changes.
