^ characters at the beginning of lsee output lines

When I run lsee on Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon the output of the script has an up arrow/caret character at the beginning of every line, like this:

This also happened when I used Crostini Linux on ChromeOS. However, when @masinter shares his screen with the output of lsee there are no such characters.

Is this behavior expected?

I get that also in bash on Ubuntu on WSL (Win 11).
