FAQ and About
FestivalInstrumentMapper maps a variety of Guitar Hero and Rock Band instruments as Xbox One guitars, for usage in Fortnite Festival's new plastic/"pro" modes.
This is an unofficial third-party tool, provided with NO WARRANTY OR GUARANTEE. This utility is not associated with or endorsed by Epic Games, Inc.
No guarantees are provided - I am not responsible if you do get banned. That being said, this utility does not patch Fortnite itself, nor does it do anything a cheat would do - in theory it will see this as a regular Xbox One controller, so the risk of being banned is very slim.
Currently:
- Santroller guitars, programmed to HID mode.
- This includes RetroCultMod adapters.
- Wii Rock Band guitars.
- Any Xbox 360 guitars, both wired and wireless.*
- This includes Wii Guitar Hero guitars, emulated via WiitarThing.
- Raphnet Wiitar adapters.
- PlayStation PDP Riffmaster guitars set to PS4 mode.
- PlayStation 4 Mad Catz Stratocaster and PDP Jaguar guitars.
- PS3 Rock Band and Guitar Hero guitars. (Untested)
* For Xbox 360 instruments, you must Set up Xbox 360 Controller Hiding with the link before mapping your guitar. Not doing this will cause both controllers to be detected, meaning you spin around over and over.
Open the Santroller configurator, or the configuration tool given to you by the creator of your guitar or adapter, and change the "Windows Controller Mode" from "XInput" to "HID Game Controller".
Doing this is highly recommended, as XInput mode can be buggier than HID.
- Whammy and tilt, for overdrive activations, can be tempremental.
- Sometimes the app won't fully close and will be stuck in the background.
- Xbox 360 controllers can cause framerate issues.
- Versions of Windows with random services removed ("debloated") won't work. This can not be fixed.
If you are using an Xbox 360 guitar, click the "Set up Xbox 360 Controller Hiding" option in the mapper and follow the instructions. If you're still having issues, check this issue for more information and experimental fixes
If opening the .exe does nothing, try installing the .NET 8 Desktop Runtime from the Microsoft website.
Download from Microsoft: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/thank-you/runtime-desktop-8.0.4-windows-x64-installer
Make sure "Ignore Controller Input" is turned OFF in the Mouse and Keyboard settings on Fortnite. Also make sure you don't have any Xbox services uninstalled.
If neither of these are the issue, try rebooting Windows.
Either close Steam or disable all the external gamepad settings in Steam's controller settings.
Emulating controllers requires Developer Mode to be enabled in Windows Settings.
Windows 11: Settings -> System -> For developers -> Developer Mode
Windows 10: Settings -> Update & Security -> For developers -> Developer Mode
You might need to install the Visual C++ Redistributable, from Microsoft: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe
This error, and other related ones, are caused by the "Xbox Accessory Management Service" or other Xbox Gaming Services components on your computer not working properly. Double check that the Xbox Accessory Management Service isn't disabled in your Windows Services list.
Do note that, due to often removing critical components like this, I will not provide any support to users using 'debloated' or otherwise modified Windows installs on the issue tracker.
This likely means your Windows version is either too old or too new to be patched to emulate a guitar controller. Make sure you've got the latest updates from Windows Update - if you do, and it still doesn't work, then file an issue report on the issues tracker and include your Windows build version (displayed at the bottom of the window).
Go to the issue tracker and report it there - if somebody else has reported it, please provide info on their issue report!
