JabRef version

5.5 (latest release)

Operating system

Windows

Checked with the latest development build

  • I made a backup of my libraries before testing the latest development version.
  • I have tested the latest development version and the problem persists

Steps to reproduce the behaviour

Sometimes JabRef loses the settings for the table view. All the individual columns get deleted and the scaling is all over the place. All the other settings are still as before.
Unfortunately I could not reproduce it.
After changing some columns everything is persisted again.

But I have a question:

  • Where is the configuration of the table view saved? Maybe I can restore them from backup.

In Windows, all settings are saved in the registry. You can also export your preferences to an xml file

Edit// Do you have "Fit table horizontally ont he screen activated"? in Preferences > Entry table

I have the xml export option checked but can't find the file anywhere. Where is it usually stored?

I don't know for sure if that option was checked. Now, as everything is reset, it is not, but then some of the settings are lost, so...

The arrows at the bottom allows you to export and import the preferences. The jabref.xml is stored in the program files directory of jabref (if access). Maybe that is the culprit here?

Seems strange as it usually works. But it could be connected to the upgrade to 5.5.

Regarding the XML export: Your said the file is saved to the program files folder, right? But when exporting I can save it wherever I want. Is it loaded from there as well? And does the filename matter?

Quoting from https://docs.jabref.org/advanced/commandline#import-preferences-p-filename

-p filename

Import user preferences from an XML file (exported using the -x option, or through the GUI). After importing, JabRef will start normally.

Thus, the file name should not matter. However, you would need to create a .bat file calling JabRef.bat with the parameter -p.
