Missing dates of birth

Several of you have asked how you can help -- here's one idea.

A year or so ago, the ITF website stopped publishing exact player birthdates (DOBs). The ATP and WTA sites still do, but their data is incomplete, and many thousands of players in the ITF database do not appear in the ATP or WTA database at all. Usually new players appear in the ITF data first. Thus, many up and coming players do not have DOBs in this dataset.

Many of the missing DOBs are publicly available, on the ATP or WTA site, or Wikipedia, or any number of other sources.

1. Finding players with missing DOBs:

• Sort Tennis Abstract's complete list of ranked players by "birthdate" (click on the "birthdate" header), and missing DOBs will be at the top of the list: http://tennisabstract.com/reports/wtaRankings.html
• or, open up one of the 'matches' files and look for players without age listed
• (if you want to look for pre-Open Era players, great! however, be aware that I've done at least a cursory search for the DOB of every pre-1968 player. There is surely a lot more info out there, and I hope to include it all someday, but it will take some digging.)

2. Finding DOBs:

• just google their names.
• do a quick 'sanity check' -- does the result you found make sense, given when the player played?
• beware YYYY-01-01 (January 1st) birthdates -- there is at least one database site that publishes many missing dobs as YYYY-01-01. That doesn't mean that hundreds of players were born on the first of year. Double-check any January 1st DOBs from multiple sources.

3. Submitting them to me:

• preferably as text (in the body of a response to this issue) or as a CSV file (attached to a response in this thread)
  one player per row, including their player ID, e.g.
  100001,Gardnar,Mulloy,R,19131122,USA
  (this is the format of the rows in the wta_players.csv file in this repo)

Two more things:

4. If you find the handedness (lefty/righty) for players currently listed as 'U', I'd love to have that too.

5. If you are looking for a player's DOB and discover that he/she has a wikipedia page, please include their wiki URL as well! I retain those as well (though they are not [yet] part of this repo) and show them on the Tennis Abstract site. For instance,
