Hi to all downgraders,

I have just combined all the infos to one post to make it easier for newbies.

Firts of all - very good news first of all!!!

I have just downgraded all my 3 different Tapo Cams: C100 V1, C200 V1 and C210 V1
It is very easy, took about 15 mins for all of 3 cams...

Here are the working firmware for this cams:

Here is the list of commands, you can just copy paste them:

• list disk

• select disk 6 (WARNING! This needs to be changed to the disk number with the SD card. Do not blindly follow this otherwise you might format your internal disk or something else.)

• clean

• convert gpt

• create partition primary

• format quick FS=FAT32

As for me i noticed the following steps of flashing

1. About 15 sec after the power on - red light blinks
2. About 50 sec after the power on - green light blinks
3. Then led lights green - It seems to be the downgrade process is fiunished, but i have waited 3 minutes as suggested in manual.

Then restart cam without SD Card, delete firmware from SD Card on PC and put SD Card in cam.
Great that the cam authorisation and all the settings in APP remain, you have just to initialise SD Card in APP again and thats all!

Are there any source floating around of mid-late 2023 C120v1.6 (instead of v1) firmware? I think Tapo did a firmware update around that time which blocked the two-way audio protocol that Scrypted and Go2RTC uses so have been looking for a way to go to before then!

There were 2 firmwares:

I had download both and compared. They are identical in binary comparision.

At first sight, the hardware looks identical. As far as I know, Tapo also uses different model designations for the markets for other cameras. In any case, the C225 would be in the list.

The TP-Link support refuses to give me the link and any other help on the subject, which I find very annoying. Does anyone have any other idea how I can get the required key or file? I would appreciate any help!

Hi, I have a Tapo C220 with latest firmware (1.1.9), and i managed to connect it successfully to home assistant with the following steps:

1. Block internet access to this device on your router.
2. Make a factory reset, pressing 5 seconds on the reset button.
3. Remove the camera from tapo app, and add it again.
4. When asks to reset it completely, do it, and configure the camera again.
5. Create the account credentials for your camera.
6. Configure it in home assistant and done.

I still have the camera blocked to reach internet, but I have full control over it locally with home assistant and with the tapo app.

I hope this helps anyone that have this specific model.

Tapo app will work, in the sense that you'll be able to login and manage other cameras. The camera you block will have no connection so it won't send notifications and also won't appear at all in the app if your phone is not in the same network. Blocking the domains will have the same effect as blocking internet completely as OP suggested.

You'll have to use HA for notifications

Ok, so after several days, I've noticed that some of my cameras behave erratically. For example, constant position re-calibration or random restarts. This causes my frigate to behave poorly. So, I ended up downgrading them in order to be able for them to connect to internet. Everything seems more stable now.
I suspect that the firmware on some of these cameras is expecting a constant internet connection and if that is not there, it keeps retrying and logging and that can cause issues...

Same here on c200 v3. Constant reboots, absolutely useless without internet connection. It does seem to work better with the DNS block though as opposed to complete internet block

Resolved easier way without factory reset and internet access blocking:

1. Downgrade FW
2. Visit cam in tapo app. Wait until live video seen.
3. Open cam preferences, tap to "Device information" under cam name (or something similar, I have localized app)
4. Wait until information refreshed and correct - including FW version and "update available"
5. Go to HA and just reload integration related to this cam. Wait until reinitialisation.
6. If problem "re-authorisation required" is not disappeared - wait about 5-10 minutes and proceed it, in my case re-auth successful.
7. Everything works.

I'm not sure about SD video download feature - I don't use it, but everything rest works good now.

I have 25 cams TC-60, about 10 of them are downgraded for now and HA works with them again. Will continue rest...

Hello all. i have two tapo c210 v2 with firmware 1.3.11 Build 231115.
i tried this
Guide to add camera with firmware build 230921 and higher

i close the home wifi and make the process as it is. they dont ask both cameras to reset it completely. So in ha integration they still have the same problem, not to accept (invalid) the password.

i power off the cameras, insert the memory stick and powered them on. Both open red light without blinking, solid red, for about 4 min. i pull sds out, reboot them and downgraded failed.

In both solutions i tried when the cameras finally opened they had o popup that said can access them only locally.
I am not very experienced with these situations and i am not a tech freak. i hope you understand my problem above.
I home anyone has a solution for me too...

You need your Wi-Fi active to configure your camera with your phone. What you need to disable is Internet access. Internet and Wi-Fi are not the same thing. The camera can't be allowed to contact external servers, but should work locally only.

This is what you want as a result of the guide. You want your cameras to be local access only.

I think your main problem might be that the app is not asking you to reset it completely, which I've never seen before, but I don't have the same cameras that you do.

Whenever I tap on Camera Account on my phone, nothing happens. I have blocked the (2) URLs mentioned by lorenzomoriconi above, and I see a message in the app that says the camera can only be controlled locally.

Any idea why I can't create a camera account?

it still doesnt work with my cam and HA!
Cam version is 1.3.11 (231115).
I make everthink needed:

• Block internet access of cam
• Factory-Reset
• Delete and new configure of cam in app
• get information --> only local access
• Create new account in app

But if i want to intergate the cam in HA (tapo camera control) i still get error message

Does anybody know why?

That is the rtsp account issue, make sure to create account under advanced settings and ensure it is not used more then twice at the same time, check FAQ on that.

Also, the password is ok! Test it on tapo app!
Only trouble with tapo and HA :-)
So i think the best choice is, to take other brands! :-(

You can follow steps in FAQ. All you need is to configure account for rtsp stream as per official TPLink Tapo instructions or the ones in your screenshot and then make sure it works & put it there.
Tapo app account != rtsp account.
Tapo stream != rtsp stream.

But with HA i get the error message. i use same user and passowrd like VLC!

Blocking internet access used to work for me on tapo c200. I actually replaced my tp-link router with asus to be able to do it because tp-link's firewall (homeshield) required a subscription. But now the camera freezes and reboots itself whenever I try to pan it. This doesn't happen when it has internet access. Honestly I'm probably not buying anything from tp-link ever again.

I won't be buying tplink again. What asus router do you have? Imagine putting security behind a paywall! Totally disgusting.

I used to have two tp-link archers, C7 and AX73. I replaced them with two Asus XT8. So now I also have a proper mesh network too. I can recommend them, and I love how much Asus allows you to tweak the settings.
BTW I tried a tp-link range extender for AX73 in the past and it didn't work either, at all. Tp-link has lost a lot in my eyes. I didn't have good experiences with their devices except for network switches.

AX73 looks nice but i need LAN as well. And its quite expensive considering i shelled out a bit for the archer

You mean Asus XT8? It has LAN. I agree it is expensive, although I was lucky to get them on discount. But the parental controls are not exclusive to XT8. Asus does not have subscription services in any of the routers as far as I know. I agree that offering this behind paywall is absolutely horrendous!

I also put DD-wrt on one of my archers initially but it was difficult to manage so I decided to sell them.

I am just fuming about not being able to block a devices outgoing internet traffic. Not only for this work around but to turn off internet access for other cloud devices that work locally.

Before integrating into HA, I did a first-time configuration of my TAPO C200v5 camera and did a firmware upgrade. Now it won't integrate with HA anymore, even if I try blocking internet access before starting the configuration all over again. Also it seems firmware for v5 is not available anywhere, so I'm not stuck with an unusable camera...

With all that being said, I am not feeling comfortable releasing this without the TPLink approval, as I am not a lawyer and so far everything in this integration was in one way or another already documented on the internet and the integration was fully local. I do not want this repo to be taken down or face any issues personally even though I know it is common in the industry for integrations to communicate with cloud, including undocumented APIs (and it is, to the best of my knowledge and research, legal, under laws such as, but not limited to, achieving interoperability with devices) . Still, I am not a lawyer, I am doing this for free and as a hobby and under best ethics and intent in mind for all the parties involved. Because of this, cloud is where I personally draw a line for the need of approval. I believe this integration brings only positive value to every party, but ultimately, the decision is on TPLink. I trully hope, and believe TPLink will do the right thing.

Good to know man! I woke up this morning and all 3 of my cams authorization has expired. I tried to reconfigure them in Hass and it's saying my cloud password is wrong, even though I confirmed 100% it's not. So it looks like something happened overnight. I hope I don't have any drama with mine now. haha

I did turn off the auto update. But when I checked it says 1.3.15 so I tried to downgrade it to 1.3.7 but it didn't work. However, I was able to re-add the camera even on 1.3.15 so now I have to repeat the process for my other 2 cams, later today.

I could not reset my tapo. But after reset and unplugged the power 3-5 min, the tapo worked and connected to the wifi again.

Hello everyone, I have a new C211 V2 that already came with the latest firmware. I flashed it with firmware for the C210 because I couldn't find one for the 211, and I read that the only difference was the color. Does anyone know where I can find the correct firmware?

I have C210 and C310, both hardware version 2.0 and firmware version 1.3.11. I only get two sensors with ONVIF integration, and those are hi and low resolution streams. I also have a few of the least useful controls such as the IR lamp switch. No floodlight and no alarm control. Quite disappointing.

You probably won't find any since the v5 cameras seem to have appeared after TPLink changed their versioning policy from 1.3.x back to 1.0.x even though the v5 models are newer.

I have tried to install older firmware versions for C200v3 on the v5 cameras, it didn't work. I finally returned the v5 cameras to the retailer and found a few TC71v2 in the shelves of my local electronics market (MediaMarkt). The hardware version is noted on the barcode sticker of the package. Those work like a charm.

Having the same issue - it seems like the Tapo_C210v2_en* bricks the v2.20 cam (red light blinking after reboot) and I havent found a solution yet. I guess there are more files on the Tapo server, but they are not indexed in the list above.
