RSSVE Installation Instructions
Ignore this; go to https://github.com/KSP-RO/RSSVE/wiki/Installation-Guide
TODO: someday delete this page. not doing it now, there might still be links to it somewhere
NOTE: Do you know how to install mods from github? If not, you're going to have a bad time. Read this first. CKAN installations are not supported by RSSVE. All required mods must be installed and managed manually.
Assuming that you already have installed Real Solar System; download and install the following required mods according to the mod version table at the bottom of this article:
-
Module Manager, version 4.0.3 for 1.6.1 players, consult the table below otherwise.
- Note: You just want the .dll, not the whole folder.
-
Environmental Visual Enhancements, version 1.4.2-2 for 1.6.1 players, consult the table below otherwise.
- Note: only EnvironmentalVisualEnhancements-X.Y.Z.W.zip is required.
- Scatterer, version 0.0540 for 1.6.1, you get the idea.
Note: it is possible to install and use RSSVE even if a compatible KSP version is not listed, as long as the minimum required dependencies (Kopernicus, Module Manager, EVE and RSS) are installed and working correctly.
Optional (but recommended) mods for RSSVE include:
Note: this list may be outdated for 1.6.1. In that case, better to refer to our official suggestions.
- Community Terrain Textures Pack
- Distant Object Enhancement
- Flare Replacer
- PlanetShine
- Texture Replacer (for use in conjunction with Galenmacil's RSS Galaxy Skybox)
- VaNnadin's 16K RSS Texture Pack
Download [Real Solar System Visual Enhancements](🚧 FIXME: dead link! 🚧)(https://github.com/PhineasFreak/RSSVE/tags), version 1.6.1-RC1 if you are on 1.6.1, check the table below otherwise.
RSSVE has been orphaned; this fork should do for now
As you know from reading the how-to guide, you'll need to decompress the zip file, find the "RSSVE" folder, and then copy it to inside your KSP's GameData folder.
Note: don't put the "RSSVE-X.Y.Z-RC1" folder in your GameData directory. You want the "RSSVE" folder instead. Might need to poke around a bit to find it.
Make sure your final installation tree looks like this, plus whatever other mods you've got installed:
+ GameData/
- EnvironmentalVisualEnhancements
- Kopernicus
- ModularFlightIntegrator
- RealSolarSystem
- RSS-Textures
- RSSVE
- Scatterer
- Squad
* ModuleManager.X.Y.Z.dll
Note: if you are upgrading then it is necessary to completely remove any previous versions of RSSVE that you have installed.
In your new /GameData/RSSVE/Textures/MainTextures folder, there should be a number of folders, most of which end in _LR or _HR. It should look like this:
+ GameData/
+ RSSVE/
+ Textures/
+ MainTextures/
- EarthAuroras_LR
- EarthCities_LR
- EarthClouds_HR
- EarthClouds_LR
- JupiterClouds_HR
- JupiterClouds_LR
- MarsClouds_HR
- MarsClouds_LR
- Misc
- NeptuneClouds_LR
- SaturnClouds_LR
- VenusClouds_HR
- VenusClouds_LR
You'll need to rename all the folders so that they don't have _LR or _HR on the end. Depending on your computer hardware you have the option to keep either the low resolution (LR, 4K & 8K textures) or the high resolution (H, 16K & 32K textures) cloud packs. Delete whichever ones you don't want.
Note: the high resolution cloud pack requires at least 16 GB of system RAM and 4 GB of VRAM and it is currently only applicable for the Earth and Jupiter.
When you're done, it should look like this:
+ GameData/
+ RSSVE/
+ Textures/
+ MainTextures/
- EarthAuroras
- EarthCities
- EarthClouds
- JupiterClouds
- MarsClouds
- Misc
- NeptuneClouds
- SaturnClouds
- VenusClouds
Congratulations, you have installed RSSVE! Launch KSP and enjoy the new visual effects! Don't forget to "Apply" them in the EVE Config Editor via the E.V.E button in the Tracking Station.
