New Mesh: SOwISC12to30E3r2 #753

Long name: SOwISC12to30kmL64E3SMv3r2

This version of the Southern Ocean Regionally Refined Mesh (SORRM) has resolution that is:

  • 12 km resolution around Antarctica
  • 30 km elsewhere
    It is intended to be similar to the Icos30 mesh except in the Southern Ocean and around Antarctica.

Mesh, initial condition, dynamic adjustment and files for E3SM are on Chrysalis at:

/lcrc/group/e3sm/ac.xylar/compass_1.2/chrysalis/e3smv3-meshes/sowisc12to30e3r2

If there are land-locked cells at calving fronts of ice shelves,
they need to be added to the land-ice mask so sea-ice doesn't
get trapped there.

This merge also gets the minimum latitude and number of sweeps
used in finding land-locked cells from config options.

Switch SO12to60 to SO12to30 with a base resolution that is now
uniformly 30 km.

Testing

This mesh has been run through files_for_e3sm and the output is in:

/lcrc/group/e3sm/ac.xylar/compass_1.2/chrysalis/e3smv3-meshes/sowisc12to30e3r2

I have verified that the land-ice mask includes "land-locked" cells that were formerly a problem for sea-ice, based on the fix in #752

This will not be adopted because of issues discussed in https://acme-climate.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/OO/pages/4059529268/Review+SOwISC12to30E3r2, notably a region of trapped sea ice near Stange Ice Shelf and only 2 vertical levels in some cells.
