Came across this today. Adding this note to research it further, specifically these questions:

1. Is web-ext same format as chromium extension or some other format? ^(*
2. How old is this project and who makes it?
3. What kind of options they offer through the CLI?
4. What is the docs and support like?
5. What are the marketing channels (besides direct link from mozilla)?

* There used to be a legacy way of building extensions. Also project seems very active.
