With the upcoming dashboard v2, the thematic areas as a unit of dataset and discovery grouping no longer make sense and they should be removed from the app.

The thematic areas should become just a taxonomy by which datasets and discoveries can be filtered.

Tasks

  • Remove thematic areas related content, converting them to a taxonomy
  • Figure out what to do with the long form content of thematic areas (EIS for example)
  • Rename/cleanup the "thematic resolver module"
  • Remove thematic references from the routes and ensure proper content redirection
  • Update veda-config documentation

This is the first thing that needs to be done for
#494
- this maintains the thematic area pages for now;
- this maintains the thematic area dropdown in individual discovery and
dataset pages for now;
- the analysis define and results page now works across all thematic
areas (all datasets are available);
- modified routing to remove any reference to thematic areas from URLs
(except thematic area pages);
- modified internal links to remove any reference to thematic areas from
URLs
- modified routing to support redirecting from legacy URLs
