The following changes for ASCAT will be added into GSI master:

  • Add the use of ASCAT from MetOp-C
  • Modify thinning and observation error for ASCAT (fix file changes only)

These changes improved minimization, reduced analysis increments, and resulted in better forecast, especially in 24-hour wind forecast at 850 hPa.

GSI results will not be reproduced due to these changes.
