webmacs: use GCC instead of clang #266668

Description of changes

clang fails to build webmacs due to numerous errors relating to its use of the C++ standard library.

Things done

  • Built on platform(s)
    • x86_64-linux
    • aarch64-linux
    • x86_64-darwin
    • aarch64-darwin
  • For non-Linux: Is sandboxing enabled in nix.conf? (See Nix manual)
    • sandbox = relaxed
    • sandbox = true
  • Tested, as applicable:
  • Tested compilation of all packages that depend on this change using nix-shell -p nixpkgs-review --run "nixpkgs-review rev HEAD". Note: all changes have to be committed, also see nixpkgs-review usage
  • Tested basic functionality of all binary files (usually in ./result/bin/)
  • 23.11 Release Notes (or backporting 23.05 Release notes)
    • (Package updates) Added a release notes entry if the change is major or breaking
    • (Module updates) Added a release notes entry if the change is significant
    • (Module addition) Added a release notes entry if adding a new NixOS module
  • Fits CONTRIBUTING.md.

I did try to run it, but it crashes when Qt WebEngine tries to mmap ICU data. I don’t know if that’s related to my running macOS 14.1 or some other issue. Regardless, fixing Qt WebEngine is out of scope for fixing this build.

PyQtWebEngine in nixpkgs has indeed always been very broken on darwin.

The change to allow overriding the stdenv in pythonBuildPackage is on master, right? That’s weird there are no rebuilds on Darwin.

Converting to draft until I have some time to figure out what’s happening here.

The required override isn’t on master. It’s on staging-next, so I retargeted staging-next. There should be some rebuilds now.
