We want to define the direct component of solar radiation. This is is derived from #1031
Suggested definition: "Direct radiation is radiation that has followed a direct path from the sun."
Alternative term: "Beam radiation"
This definition has been taken vom the cfconventions (cfconvetions.org): direct_downwelling_shortwave_flux_in_air, with a slight adaption (moved "beam radiation" to alternative term). http://cfconventions.org/Data/cf-standard-names/current/build/cf-standard-name-table.html

This will be a subcasss of solar radiation (....ocurrent -> process -> radaition -> solar radiation)
I agree with slight modifications: Direct radiation is solar radiation that follows a direct path from the sun.
