How to make a Grammar Reference and why?
A Grammar Topic (in the sidebar of the admin panel) cannot be complete without a Grammar Reference and API Query String.
As a reference system for the Greek we chose Smyth. Smyth is the name of the author of the "Greek Grammar for Colleges", a notorious Ancient Greek textbook. The reason we use it is because it is divided up in very convenient micro sections, which help us point to EXACTLY what it is we are explaining. It is possible to download it here.
Here is an example of how to make a Smyth reference. Let's take "Two-termination Adjectives in the Third Declension":
- Find the topic in the Smyth Grammar book. The best way is to browse here.
- Once you have found the topic, see what section number it is. So, in this case, the section number is 291.
- Place the small "s" of Smyth in front of the number, so s291.
This will be your Smyth reference! All you have to do now is put the reference in the Grammar Topic "Reference" box in the admin panel. In the "External url" box, just put a link to the Smyth grammar in Perseus, like this. Replace the number in the URL with the Smyth reference for any topic, and the link will still work.
