Over the years of creating custom content for RCT2 people have been carefully studying the graphics to deduce how they were made. Whilst some opted for pixel art to combine existing graphics into new shapes, others experimented with methods to render sprites from 3D objects.

In recent years, thanks to many very talented contributors and even Simon Foster (the artist of RCT2) himself, we've come incredibly close to recreating the look of the original RCT2 graphics.

Some examples that can already be found in OpenRCT2 include:

  • Hybrid and single rail coaster track pieces and ride vehicles
  • Railroad crossings

Pages within this category describe the research that has been done for various areas of interest related to mimicking the RCT2 style.
