Problem
AWS added support for using custom launch templates with managed node groups. This has yet to be merged into the terraform-aws-eks module but I would like to get working on it. There is a PR open and It seems like they are good with this solution. It's only a matter of time till it's merged.
Solution
Merge in this PR to our repo so we can get moving.
