For people driving on the right-hand side of the road, a right turn is somewhat faster than a left turn. (Vice versa in the UK, obviously.)
A quick look at the Lua code tells me that OSRM doesn't know that – except for bicycle routes, where the bias is wrong for the UK (if I read the code correctly).

Yes. We currently have no way of knowing that. I believe this was also discussed in an older issue.

#333: use different profiles for different areas

the bias should probably be set to zero for the default profiles
