I am Rahul Sundar, a MS/PHD scholar in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras. I am a research assistant in the Biomimetics and Dynamics lab at IIT Madras under Prof Sunetra Sarkar.
As part of my PhD I am passionate about studying forward and inverse Fluid Structure Interaction problems as they offer me the opportunity to go deep and wide in different interconnected topics mentioned below:
- High Performance Computing
- Model Order Reduction
- System Identification
- Data driven methods for modeling, simulation and control
- Machine Learning for science and engineering applications
- Mathematical Modeling and analysis
- Multiphysical models
- Nonlinear Dynamics
- Stochastic processes and dynamical systems
I am studying flapping wing flyers and the associated nonlinear dynamical phenomenon occurring due to the fluid-structure interactions in different regimes of flight and the aerodynamic performance. Although the focus is on flapping wing flyers, the ramifications of the methods developed for such systems extend to microfluidic medical devices, vibrating chimneys, wind energy harvesting, weather forecasting, coupled dynamical systems, etc.
Outside of my PhD specific interests, I am currently interested in
- Scientific Machine learning for climate science, Robotics, EV, Healthcare, pharma - basically all things - engineering/ interdisciplinary.
- Generative AI for: (1) science & math & computing, (2) conversational applications, and (3) Content generation and art.
- Broadly understanding large scale usecases of ML + automation, optimisation and control
- Learning how to build scalable user-first ML models/systems, and
- Understanding the schools of thought towards building AGI
