Getting Started

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure you have the following tools installed on your system:

• .NET 8.0 SDK or later: Required to run the backend of the MediaDownloadEngine.

  • Download .NET 8.0 SDK

• yt-dlp: A command-line video downloader required for media download operations.

  • Installation:

    # For Windows:
    python -m pip install -U yt-dlp
    
    # For macOS (using Homebrew):
    brew install yt-dlp
    
    # For Linux:
    sudo curl -L https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/releases/latest/download/yt-dlp -o /usr/local/bin/yt-dlp
    sudo chmod a+rx /usr/local/bin/yt-dlp

• FFmpeg: Required for merging video and audio streams and format conversion tasks.

  • Installation:

    # For Windows:
    # Download FFmpeg from https://ffmpeg.org/download.html and add it to your system's PATH.
    
    # For macOS (using Homebrew):
    brew install ffmpeg
    
    # For Linux:
    sudo apt update
    sudo apt install ffmpeg

Installation

1. Clone the repository:

   git clone https://github.com/SabeloMkhwanzi/MediaDownloadEngine.git
   cd MediaDownloadEngine
   

2. Restore .NET dependencies:

   dotnet restore
   

3. Run the backend::

     dotnet run

Usage

• Open the application in your browser.
• Enter the media URL you want to download.
• Select the desired format (MP4, MP3).
• Choose the resolution for videos.
• Click "Download" to start the process.

Download Media

To download media, make a POST request to the /download endpoint with the media URL, format, and resolution.

Convert Media Format

To convert a downloaded file to another format, make a POST request to the /convert endpoint with the input file path and desired output format.

Error Handling
