Quick steps MAC OS X:

1.a. Postgre SQL from http://www.postgresql.org/download/macosx/ This only needed to run R scripts locally. Otherwise we use Mongo to render existing data into charts. 1.b. MongoDB is the Dashboard database which can be installed with brew (from bellow). External link here http://www.mongodb.org/ 2. R from http://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx/ 3. RVM form https://rvm.io/workflow/rvmrc/ 4. Brew from http://mxcl.github.com/homebrew/ 5. use brew to install GIT 6. use rvm to install ruby-1.9.3-p362 7. use gem to install bundler 8. run bundler install to setup the rest of the gems 9. use pow from http://pow.cx/ as webserver in development
