future of project
Hello dear Community,
I (i.e. The Tumultuous Unicorn Of Darkness ) want to be transparent with you, what made this announcement.
I started to develop CPU-X back in April 2014, meaning 6~7 years ago (some months before the first official release).
As you can see, I slowed down the development of this software:
- 0 release in 2017
- 4 releases in 2018
- 1 release in 2019
- 2 releases in 2020
- 2 releases in 2021
To bo honest, I lost interest in developing this software, and I do not plan to make major changes in the future.
It bores me to develop new features, and I do not want to keep doing it anymore.
I work on my free time, but I have changed during these years and I want to do something else now.
It does not mean I totally end to work on CPU-X, I think I will still fix bugs and update databases, and I remain the main author and the owner of this project.
I learned a lot of things during all these years, and it was a very stimulating project for me.
In my point of view, it is a pain to develop a graphical application with C language, although I like this programming language.
And about GUI, I do not plan to port this software to GTK 4: GTK 3 looks stable now (what a burden in the past...), and I tell myself "if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it".
Anyway, contributors are still welcome. Read the CONTRIBUTING.md file if you want to be involved. I will try to answer questions if any.
Thanks to all contributors for your awesome work on this project.
Sincerely yours,
The Tumultuous Unicorn Of Darkness
