How to Uninstall
If the friends.js.first-backup
file exists, the QuickPatcher application will offer an option to restore the backup file and uninstall the patch. This file is automatically created when you use the QuickPatcher application to install the patch.
Launch the QuickPatcher.
Set the path to Steam if needed (it will be autofilled), then click the Restore Backup & Uninstall FriendsUI Patch button.
And you're done. You can now close the QuickPatcher and launch Steam.
If you used the QuickPatcher to install the patch, or you followed Step 3 in the manual install instructions and manually created friends.js.first-backup
, you can perform the same uninstall procedure that the QuickPatcher does.
Open explorer and browse to the directory where Steam is installed. This is typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\
.
If Steam is running, close it. Otherwise, you will need to use a utility to forcibly release the locks Steam may be holding on its program files.
Open the clientui
directory. Delete the following items:
- The
friends.js
file - The
steam-chat.com-snapshot-mod-{guid}
folder
Rename the friends.js.first-backup
file to friends.js
.
The contents of Steam\clientui
will now look like this:
The uninstall is complete. Steam will now try to run the friends/chat PWA at steam-chat.com
instead.
In this scenario, you will need to obtain the stock, unmodified copy of friends.js
for the installed version of your Steam client.
The most straightforward way is to perform a forced in-place Steam update. For instructions on how to do this, refer to the Appendix article.
