Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy (787480) #3324
Comments
I believe this does not happen anymore, it used to need WINED3D to start but it worked out of the box when I tested with proton 5.0.3 right now. |
Thanks for reminding me about this (I had this issue subscribed as I was waging to buy the game at the time). Running on Proton 5.0.3, and having no problems whatsoever in-game. However, I do remember that a few days ago the game silently just wouldn't start, just as described by the issue. A simple restart of the system sufficed to get it running again tough. Didn't have any problems since. I play this game regularly atm, I will keep this issue in mind and see if I can reproduce. |
Thanks for the reminder @jobucaldas and @kernle32dll - with proton 4.11 it would consistently and silently fail. But under Proton 5.0.3 it works perfectly! Do we need to close this issue now? |
Sorry if this is not the correct place, I think it is a single ticket per game? If the monitor goes to power save mode, the game is frozen after . Edit: Same issue if I manually power off and on the monitor. |

Issues
I have tested this game on three different machines:
With the latest releases of Proton there have been no issues running the game save for the minor visual bug described above. I do not have access to any devices with an Nvidia GPU to test the game on, but on various Intel and AMD devices the game runs without any problems. I have played 147 hours exclusively with Proton without issue across these devices. The open issue for this game has only a few replies, but also mentions that the previous issues with the game and DXVK have been resolved. |
Hello, is anyone seeing an issue with this game that would block it from being whitelisted? |
I just tested and the issue I commented seems to be fixed |
This game randomly CTD after hours of gameplay on my Ryzen system, the proton log mention this error in the proton logs Compressed log attached to this post. Besides this random crashes (and the sparse autosaves that can be a little bit annoying at times), this game works perfectly on my Ryzen 5 2600 + RX580 GPU desktop and my Ryzen5 4500U + Vega 6 graphics on my laptop. |
This game is broken on systems with a lot of cores. If you have at least 16+ core CPU it will constantly crash. (Systems with lower core counts might also be affected; I know that there's one report from a person with a 16 core CPU on protondb which says that it crashes constantly, and a report for a 12 core CPU where it crashes "sometimes".) It looks like the more CPU cores you have the higher the limit is for the amount of address space/memory the game will try to mmap; if you have too many cores so that the limit is too high it looks like it just runs out of address space after a bit not being able to mmap anything anymore and crashes. Forcing WINE to report only 4 cores to the game (e.g. by getting |
After 2 days of normal play on my Steam Deck, the game started crashing and wouldn't start. |
Interesting log lines. The garbled characters are probably an enclosing thing but that's very strange. Maybe something in the appdata folder in the prefix needs fiddled with? |
I see, this whole folder doesn't exist in the "CAPCOM" folder |
OK, I solved it.
|
Thanks! It seems to be related to the regional setting of wine. |
According to a previous comment (#3324 (comment)) and https://www.protondb.com/app/787480#HKKChFR9rC, the game breaks on a lot of cores. Would be nice to limit the number of visible cores as it is done to other games. This game runs on Unity and all things on your screen are pre-rendered, so no big issue to limit. As for the game itself, it runs fine for me on Proton GE 9.11 using DXVK. |
