Compatibility Report

  • Age of Empires I, III, III All
  • Age of Mythology
  • Skyrim SE

System Information

GPU: GeForce TRX 2080 Super
Driver: NVidia 465.24.02 CUDA 11.3

  • Proton version: ANY

I confirm:

  • [x ] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [ x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms Ubuntu 21_04 switched the Display server to WAYLAND. While it is supposed to be backwards compatible with Xorg all of the above listed games would either start and quit immediately or post a DirectX error. Switching back to xorg (gear in lower right at logon screen) resolved the issues

Reproduction

Ubuntu 21_04 on WAYLAND Display server should reproduce this issue for any of the above games. No sure what Wayland changed but should be easy to reproduce.

Possible duplicate of #4816.

Does setting one of the game's launch options to WINEDLLOVERRIDES=dxgi=n %command% work around the issue?

Nvidia doesn't support wayland all that much and afaik vulkan isn't even properly running on wayland it just gives an error. So I'd switch to xorg for the time being until nvidia releases their 470.xx driver which is stated to fully support wayland and have opencl 3.0

The problem is that you are using NVIDIA + Wayland.
