Currently, using GB 18.2, there's a command to add a new post but then, if you want to generally return to the Site Editor, you can't just type "site editor". Nothing shows up:

command.palette.site.editor.command.mov

This surprised me for being able to quickly get back after creating a post. We have three options:

  • Add the ability to enter "Site editor" to return to. This would lay the groundwork perhaps for having the command palette across wp-admin where locations would be more desirable to go to: Command Palette: enable the command palette to be evoked everywhere in WordPress #58218
  • Show the top level items within the Site Editor: Pages, Templates, Styles (which you can search and access).
  • Do nothing. We decide the command palette isn't going to take this approach.

I have a feeling the second option might be more palatable:

This makes me wonder if we can improve the empty state of the command palette a bit to show no results found but offer some intelligent suggestions.

I'm not sure what should be expected when/if a user selects "Go to Site Editor". Should the command just be "Go back"?

It would take the person from the post editor to the site editor.

To clarify, just to the same place as when you click on "Appearance -> Editor", right? Not to edit anything specific (which, now that I think of it, there are specific commands to edit each template)
