@tellthemachines @annezazu when you have a chance 🙏 any chance to consider this for WP 6.3 inclusion? It is a simple self-contained fix similar to what was done for #52603. Thank you! |
Added it to the board for good measure. Up to core editor tech leads to commit for RC2 at this point. |
This is a bug in a new feature, so can still go in during RC. I'm not sure about the string change though, given we're already in string freeze. Does that still apply if we're changing to an existing string? (given that Edit: I just asked in the release channel and it's fine to add this in! |
@annezazu thank you so much for taking care of this PR and for making sure the string change is OK during beta / RC. Thanks @azaozz for your feedback. For history and education, I'd like to report the most important point in your feedback (emphasis mine): Reusing an existing string: [...] marks the strings as "fuzzy" afaik (which generally means there аrе very minimal changes or a string is the same but is at a different place). |
I just cherry-picked this PR to the update/packages-RC2 branch to get it included in the next release: 114a638 |

What?
When editing a page in the Site editor, the password protected input field is auto-focused as soon as it is revealed. This may not be the best experience for users. Also, it is inconsistent with the behavior in the Post editor.
Please do not ever use the
autofocus
attribute.Do not ever disable the
jsx-a11y/no-autofocus
rule, unless there are very very good reason to do so.Why?
jsx-a11y/no-autofocus
is in place and it should not be disabled. How?
Removes the autofocus attribute.
Standardizes the placeholder text.
