Important update

On August 12, 2011, Google finally removed the Google+ server-side browser sniffing for Opera! Because the Google+ server-side browser sniffing is now gone and because the extensions and workarounds are now unnecessary, you can uninstall the extension or remove the user JS and then reset your user agent back to Opera. Right click > Edit Site Preferences... > Network > Browser identification: Identify as Opera > OK.

Follow the installation instructions for either the User JS or the extension and for either Google+ User Agent Enforcer or Google+ Injector. Only install one item.

User JS

For the User JS, under the "Source" tab, find the User JS file > Right click on "raw" > Save Linked Content As... > Save the raw file to your User JS folder.

If you use the User JS, "User JavaScript on HTTPS" must be enabled, and you will get an HTTPS warning for each browsing session.

Enable the "User JavaScript on HTTPS" checkbox:

opera:config#User%20JavaScript%20on%20HTTPS or opera:config#UserPrefs|UserJavaScriptonHTTPS

Extension

For the extension, click "Downloads" and then install the corresponding OEX file.

If you use the extension, "User JavaScript on HTTPS" does not have to be enabled, so you will not get an HTTPS warning for each browsing session. However, for extensions, "Allow interaction with secure pages" must be enabled.

Additional instructions

Google+ User Agent Enforcer

Once the User JS or the extension is installed, you will need to spoof the "User-Agent" HTTP header.

For example:

https://plus.google.com/ > Right click > Edit Site Preferences... > Network > Browser identification: Identify as Firefox > OK.

Additional notes

Google+ Injector

Known issues:

  • Webpages, like "https://plus.google.com/photos/" and "https://plus.google.com/circles/", do not have the notification and share text, so there is no way to get the the notification and share text for non-English languages. For these webpages, they will always show as "Notifications" and "Share", unless you edit the User JS.
