Unfortunately I looked up whether it's possible to change the slug through ReadTheDocs and essentially they don't support it without deleting and reinstantiating the project, which they also don't recommend doing. That being said, to my knowledge the only inbound links to the documentation at the moment are the ones that exist in the GitHub README.md. Bearing this in mind, if you think it'd be worth changing the slug whilst the content is still unpublished, I'm happy to do so.

This is not a blocker, but I would suggest the change. Like you said, the number of links to the documentation is now fairly low and will probably never be lower than that. Thus, changing it later might actually be a problem, whereas right now it is a nuisance at best.
