READMEs for GOV.UK applications vs GDS Way documentation on READMEs

The manual page about READMEs for GOV.UK applications provides a different template than the GDS Way's documentation on writing READMEs.

Is there a preferred option and, if so, would it be helpful if I were to submit a PR to update the manual or the GDS Way documentation accordingly?

Given that issues from over 3 years ago are still awaiting a response, I consider it very unlikely that this issue is going to be triaged.
