mat-select is not detecting screen overflow when placeholder is hidden

What is the expected behavior?

mat-select detects that the dropdown menu will overflow the screen, and repositions the dropdown.

What is the current behavior?

On some cases mat-select will show the dropdown outside of screen.

What is the use-case or motivation for changing an existing behavior?

I would like to use mat-select dropdown without the placeholder.
