I see the point, but, this is also not how the release tarballs are build. Look at release-build.sh. I wouldn't mind adding more of the flags you see in the releases, but this is also not advertised as something that creates exactly what's in a release tarball. There is no one such release, and if there is a "main" one, it's hadoop-provided at this point.
