Update conventions and styling

We have a bit of a mess right now, and there is no consistency. We should update the `.editorconfig` and enforce some additional rules. Also, we have different styling across the solution, somewhere we're `this`, and in other places `_camelCase`. I think not all the changes can be updated automatically, and there will be a lot of manual work too.
