10.11.0: ORSSerialPort doesn't work with Arduino Esplora (possibly other modem type ports?) #86

Haven't yet investigated this fully, but I believe it only happens on 10.11 El Capitan.

Turns out that setting the RTS and/or DTR line fixes the problem. I have no idea why the change with 10.11 (confirmed that this issue doesn't happen on 10.10).
