At present, the presence or absence of newline characters is not reflected in the UI. In a later commit, we permit the use of text segments that don't have newline characters, so we adjust the test cases to reflect the intended situation where the lines end with newline characters.
In principle, we can now support recording words rather than lines (although it doesn't render that well).
