Privately Owned Vehicles ‐ Work Group
Muhammad Zain Khawaja - Senior Tech Lead at Autoware Foundation
This work group aims to develop technologies for autonomous driving functions of privately owned vehicles. The technology focus is for hands-off, eyes-off autonomy (SAE L3 and above), primarily on highways. Please visit the Github repository of this project to learn more.
The goal of this work group is to develop technology along a path to production, in a way that it can eventually be integrated as an automotive grade product within the automotive supply chain and power OEM autonomous driving applications. The technology stack will rely upon a vision-first approach, supplemented by 4D Radar and without any reliance on LIDAR of 3D High Definition Maps.
The work group aims to build a demo-ready proof of concept of a highway driving system by end of year 2025 called DrivePilot - which is capable of L3 autonomy in a single lane on a highway (hands-off and eyes-off).
Current and planned development Q1 2025 involves completion of the vision-based pipeline component technologies for DrivePilot as specified in the AutoSeg Repository
Meeting minutes are available in the github discussions under meeting:privately-owned-vehicle. You can also access meeting minutes in this google drive folder link to meeting minutes doc
The Privately Owned Vehicle Work Group meets every week on Monday in two slots, a morning slot at 04:30 UTC and an evening slot at 16:00 UTC.
For meeting information, see the Autoware Foundation's events calendar for when the upcoming meetings will be held. If you use Google Calendar, you can subscribe to this calendar directly to have it displayed alongside your own calendar events. To do this, click the "+ Google Calendar" link in the bottom right corner of that site. Note that this will not add the events to your own calendar, meaning you may not receive notifications about meetings starting soon. For those not using Google Calendar, you can add the calendar to your own by downloading it as an ICS file and importing that into your calendar software.
The meetings and other announcements will be made every other week at Autoware Discord. To join the Autoware Discord server please use the link: https://discord.com/invite/Q94UsPvReQ
