The easiest way to get the version number is to either query https://repology.org/ or https://www.freshports.org/.

I might work on this soon myself. However, if you'd like to do it yourself then go for it. 😄 😈

repology.org seems to have an API that we can easily plug into, so that's a good start. Please feel free to give the implementation a try, we've got a nice tutorial to get you started. 😉

Looks like https://repology.org/ is too general to find a specific FreeBSD Port.

Maybe parsing the git mirror will work. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/freebsd/freebsd-ports/master/www/phalcon4/Makefile
