Dirt and Sparkle #164
Comments
Maybe cos they have different causes and different methods to solve the
issue? Sparkle, AFAIK is created in the printing process on the emulsion
side and probably needs to be fixed digitally, whearas dirt (if not
inherited from source) is probably generated through use and can be removed
physically or digitally?

to consolidate these? Is there a reason for them to remain distinct?

Not sure that these are enough reasons to keep them distinct...

That is a notable difference, thanks @kieranjol, I didn't think of it that way |
Actually, I brought a bias into this. I pretty much never worked with negs,
only positive reversal or prints. I think these both are similar enough and
could warrant the combination. Sorry for my ramblings.

In my opinion, it’s important to distinguish between physically present on the element (can be cleaned easily before digitising or printing) and photographically copied into the element (which can be masked digitally, in a more or less convincing way, depending e.g. on the size). |
Haha, and I have the opposite bias! I have only ever worked with original nitrate negatives and no prints. But with our powers combined, Kieran..!!!! |
