Unable to update Goose desktop app on Windows #5201

@Abhijay007

Description

@Abhijay007

Describe the bug

Unable to update the Goose app to the latest version (v1.10.2) on Windows. Even after performing a fresh installation, it remains on v1.9.3 and fails to fetch the new update. This was working fine previously, so it might be related to the recent capitalization change from Goose → goose.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  • Go to the settings
  • scroll down to update goose
  • Attempt to update to v1.10.2 via the in-app update
  • Observe that the update fails with an error in the console (see screenshot).

Expected behavior

The app should successfully detect and update to the latest version (v1.10.2).

Please provide following information:

  • OS & Arch: [Windows 11]
  • Interface: [UI]
  • Version: [v1.9.3]
  • Extensions enabled: [e.g. Computer Controller, Figma]
  • Provider & Model: [e.g. Google - gemini-1.5-pro]

Additional context

As discussed on Discord, this issue might be related to the capitalization change in the app name (Goose → goose). A fresh download doesn’t fix the problem — the app still doesn’t recognize or fetch the update.
