6th October 2024 ‐ Upcoming changes to Bloxstrap
Hello! This article upcoming outlines changes to Bloxstrap that you should be made aware about regarding the app, as well as the management of the project.
Bloxstrap v2.8.0 is almost ready for release, with the remaining work now just being localization and testing. We're targeting a release date of October 15th. This new version of Bloxstrap will be changing a lot of things, and some changes may be problematic, so you're being warned of them in advance now.
The first thing that probably popped in your head when you opened this was probably something along the lines of:
Woah, that logo looks different!
Yep, that's right. We're incredibly overdue on this, but it's time for a logo that isn't completely ass. Unprecedented for an open-source project, I know right?
I'd like to give a massive thank you to @BlueOutside for helping me out with the new icon design, and @axellse for the font choice (which is Lexend Deca, in case you were wondering).
For the past two years that Bloxstrap has existed, it's been under my own personal GitHub account. Starting from today, the repository will now be under the Bloxstrap (@bloxstraplabs) organization. All links pointing to https://github.com/pizzaboxer/bloxstrap will automatically redirect to https://github.com/bloxstraplabs/bloxstrap.
Bloxstrap v2.8.0 will introduce an analytics system. We're doing this to get insight on three things:
- Bloxstrap's usage figures (as simple as just how many people are using it)
- How we can improve Bloxstrap (diagnostic data, etc)
- Upcoming changes that Roblox may be making to the game client
It's very minimal and all data sent is completely anonymous. This is all explained more in-depth in the privacy policy. Read it to get a better idea of what data we're collecting.
When the upgrade happens, it will be on by default. You can choose to turn it off afterwards. The post-upgrade release notes will outline clearly how to disable it.
Currently, Bloxstrap installs Roblox to the constantly changing Bloxstrap/Versions/version-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/
folder. Starting with v2.8.0, Bloxstrap will be installing Roblox to a static folder located at Bloxstrap/Roblox/Player/
.
This is an advance warning to people who maintain applications or scripts that attempt to locate where Bloxstrap installs Roblox.
