macOS and Windows both have updaters built in, but the app has no control over updates on Linux. The app must be updated via the user's chosen update mechanism (apt, yum/dnf, snap, etc)
Because the signing keys will be different and also the repository is different, users wanting the .deb or .rpm installs (via apt/yum/dnf) will need to follow the guide here:

Snap unfortunately does not have a version available for Brave Core (although, @w0ts0n is looking at this and it's captured in issue #1007)
