[Linux] Core dumped, froze whole system #7568
Comments
@rhysperry111 Can you go to brave://crashes and send the report and share the report ID here? Thanks. |
It seems I have disabled crash reporting... sorry. |
@rhysperry111 does this happen every time? If so, with crash reporting enabled, please visit the page and then send the report 😄 If it doesn't happen every time, we'll need to dig in more to find the root cause (since it would likely affect other sites also) |
Annoyingly, I can’t reproduce the crash. EDIT: Accidentally closed issue. Could you please remove it from completed |
UpdateThis crash happened again with the same effect as last time - system became totally unresponsive and couldn't even change tty. Additional notes:
Crash logI went to brave://crashes but even though crash logging is turned on it says there are not reported crashes. System log
I currently have the system setup to discard coredumps. Would it help if I turned coredump saving back on and then uploaded the coredump if I see the crash again? |
@rhysperry111 can you please try visiting brave://flags/#enable-oop-rasterization and then DISABLING this flag? I'm curious if this makes a difference |
Just did that but will not be able to confirm if it fixes the issue as I can't find a reliable way to reproduce it |
@rhysperry111 awesome thanks! Let's just watch it for a bit, let us know 😄 If that is the problem, I am working on a revert for that (as it does cause a problem for other users) with brave/brave-core#4318 |
Update: I haven't experienced any fatal crashes with that flag set to disabled. Can't tell if that did fix it as I did not have a reliable way to reproduce it but it seems to be working |
@rhysperry111 great, thanks for the update! I'll close this issue for now... but if crashes happen again, please re-open or leave another comment here 😄 Thanks! Going forward, this will be disabled by default starting with version 1.3 (due ~Feb 4th) |
Still having this issue. Here's an example core dump (it does this about once a hour):
Seems to always have multiple threads doing I've had this issue with other Chromium-based programs (Electron apps), which leads me to believe that it may be related to Chromium. Here's the history just for today (from coredumpctl):
I have to reboot with SysRq nearly every time this happens. |
I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to post this for whatever reason, but this is the only bug report I was able to find anywhere that described the same issue I've been having. |
I am also having the same issue. I'll open a new issue as there seems to be no response in this one. |
