The inclusion of Marvel and Disney in this list detracts from the underlying cause of this list, and is based on factually incomplete information. Scott Derrickson has gone on record calling the move to change the Ancient One to a white woman "evil, but the lesser of two evils", and doing so to avoid portraying racist stereotypes. https://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/films/725894/Doctor-Strange-whitewashing-Tilda-Swinton-Ancient-One-Wong-Scott-Derrickson Let's also not forget that Winnie the Pooh (an asset of Disney) is banned in China, yet Disney still continues to support that character. In fact, it has not actively removed Winnie the Pooh themed rides from the Shanghai Disneyland, though the Chinese government is forcefully removing all references to it https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/books/news/winnie-the-pooh-disneyland-china-ban-xi-jinping-meme-shanghai-president-a8660461.html
Though what explains comments from the screenwriter about tibet? |
As is standard with buzzfeed news, they are taking his quotes out of context See here: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/29/world/asia/doctor-strange-tilda-swinton-china-tibet.html Am I arguing that what he did was right? Not at all. But given the nature of this list, this situation does not warrant associating Marvel/Disney with Chinese censorship and the appalling situation Hong Kong faces |
Do you not remember how the actress of live action Mulan supported Chinese Government and opposed HongKong on Weibo, and Disney kept it's mouth shut like the little bitch it is? |
Is this repo only concerned with the situation in Hong Kong? Or all companies who censor in appeasement to China in any fomr? |
@rocketNeck For all cases of appeasement, not just Hong Kong |
Even if Disney was not on this list due to the actions taken in the MCU films to appease all audiences, Disney did force Video Game Company Square Enix to add a white blur over 100 Acre Wood Character Winnie the Pooh in all Chinese copies of Kingdom Hearts 3 due to the ban of Winnie in China. China banned any depictions of the character after some compared Winnie the Pooh's appearance to that of Chinese president Xi Jinping. So even if not for Marvel, Disney still belongs on this list for complying with the Pooh Bear Ban. |
@AdonisGamer This is incorrect. A gaming site based out of china applied the whiteout in attempt to protect themselves from any outcry. There is no official Chinese region/version of KH3, it never was officially for sale there. If you want to play it you have to import it. |
