📃 Iteration 57 roadmap

This post outlines our targets for the upcoming iteration. The goal is to provide a summary of where we are going.

New features / enhancements

• Typing improvements (migration to beforeInput, better IME support) – this will span across a few iterations.
• Migration to TypeScript – this will span across a few iterations. First packages were already converted 🍾
• Sidebar performance improvements for scenarios with huge number of annotations.
• Track changes integration with new features: code blocks ✅, HTML embed ✅, document lists, styles dropdown ✅, image URL balloon. This will be released gradually.
• New category "Arrows" will be added to the default configuration of Special characters dropdown.

Bug fixes

• Image's alternative text button state now indicates whether any value is applied
• Toolbar 'Show more items' button will no longer steal focus after clicking a button from it
• The block toolbar will close properly upon clicking its button
• Auto-linking will not happen for URLs without a protocol if config.link.defaultProtocol is not set
• Improvement for keyboard navigation for style feature
• The image insertion pane is no longer empty if opened with arrow down key
• Made color pickers in table and table cell properties forms accessible for keyboard users
• To-do list items should not interrupt the tab key navigation across the editor content

Finally, more bug fixes and minor improvements are planned for the 57th iteration. See the list of issues closed in the current iteration for more details.

Dates

The code freeze is planned for Sep 29th, 2022, followed by releasing npm packages on Oct 5th, 2022.

Please keep in mind that these plans are subject to change, and even though we put all our energy into delivering all the items mentioned above, the iteration plan may change at any point.
