iwlwifi firmware: WRT: Invalid buffer destination #3143
Comments
Apologies for bug-squatting, but this looks like an issue that needs all the data it can get. So I've attached a dmesg crash log and linked an almost identical issue, that may help somebody.... I found another similar issue reported here. It seems Intel being a little slow on joining the dots on this.... I do recall when I first put Debian on this machine I could not get either the Bluetooth or Wireless to work. Then I realised that the chip was not introduced until after the firmware libraries dates in Recently the BT mouse and keyboard became erratic and the DMESG is full of interrupt issues (take too long, or rate limited). Naturally I blamed myself for purchasing cheap Chinese hardware. So, after one mouse took an unscheduled disassembly against a wall, Amazon sent me a new, far more expensive BT mouse and keyboard (meanwhile resorting to a wired keyboard). Only for the problem to persist. Now I look at the Here is DMESG, during boot. You can see it crashing in the Intel Wifi driver before sort of recovering.
Now it gets interesting [ 7.527028] Bluetooth: hci0: Applying Intel DDC parameters completed
-[ 7.530054] Bluetooth: hci0: Firmware timestamp 2023.48 buildtype 1 build 75324
-[ 7.546734] iwlwifi 0000:00:14.3: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x0.
-[ 7.546834] iwlwifi 0000:00:14.3: Start IWL Error Log Dump: ...crash dump...

I am getting similar messages:
In last boot:
In previous boot (before a freeze, which could have been caused by iwlwifi or kafs)
|
Any solution for this? |
I have similar errors - and I am trying to zone in on an issue wherein the Ax101 -- N100 would drop out after a suspend, Network issues may come from otherplaces.
This is a fatal error and should be investigated I had this problem in another device and following the countermeasure given in gentoo wiki especially disabling the 40mhz channel solved it for me personally. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Iwlwifi#Troubleshooting -- please have a look here. |
Also note the following: I had an issue regarding some iwlwifi-firmware blobs missing from Debian.
I manually got the files and pasted them in the required location After which I got a new set of errors which resembles the errors posted here
Since these current errors haven't caused any problems for me for now - I am not too keen on going after them -- but I reckon, manually rolling back the firmware version used may help in suppressing some of the errors, or even mitigate them if they cause any problems. |
and just to confirm, you're getting this with the current clear Linux
release? (not that I think this will change much until we go to the next
kernel, if then)

Since these current errors haven't caused any problems for me for now - I
am not too keen on going after them -- but I reckon, manually rolling back
the firmware version used may help in suppressing some of the errors, or
even mitigate them if they cause any problems.
However tracking any problem in the iwlwifi module is always problematic -
since its difficult to separate actual errors from superfluous spams.

WiFi randomly disconnects after waking up from suspend or after being idle for a long time. I need to toggle WiFi off and on to reconnect to the hotspot |
can you try doing
systemctl disable clr-power
to see if it's influenced by power management settings?

its not. Here is log from crash, seems like microcode itself is buggy. Is microcode open? [81445.595924] iwlwifi 0000:00:14.3: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x0. after this point I need to disable and re-enable wifi to get it working. |
FYI - also occurs on other distro. Linux 6.10.6.
|
Mine is suddenly fixed since installing |
the package is not in clearlinux, right? |
Sorry, I haven't used ClearLinux. I just couldn't find any more relevant threads than this one to track the issue yet. |
Doesn't fix in other systems. But driver doesn't fatally fail with Wireless-regdb is auto installed. Both errors talked about here might as well be unrelated. |
Sorry false alarm... It seems to still happen. No idea of the cause or why it stops for days sometimes. |
I get the same WRT and modem error messages but the driver doesn't crash. The adapter connects perfectly fine at 2.4 GHz to my AP. It does not like 5 GHz, I had to make sure both 2.4 and 5 GHz were enabled on my AP. I run my own distribution so I can't offer any advice how to do these steps on any partitcular distro. Just sharing what has worked for me, YMMV, but maybe this might help someone since my troubleshooting via google brought me here. MiniPC with N305 CPU AX101 WiFi I did have to compile the driver and firmware into the kernel, I also had to do the same thing for the graphics. I had major headaches trying to get all of this to work as modules. I don't have any need for Bluetooth but I would also do the same for the BT firmware: /usr/src/linux-6.10.10/.config I also had to make sure rfkill was enabled in the kernel. Enabling this made all the difference. Wifi is unstable (connection needs to be restarted by reconnecting to wifi network).
Seems to be problem in power management:
