My name is Neil, I am a clinical engineer working in a gait laboratory (ORLAU, RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry UK). I write inelegant code in Python! I have some simple bits of code that use the Vicon Nexus Python SDK that could be useful for other Vicon users. These could be extended and improved upon, e.g. to use Btk. I think the CMAS open-code project is going to be a great way to improve my coding skills, share tools and build a vibrant community that can solve problems together. |

Hi All, Sjoerd Bruijn, VU Amsterdam, Human Movement Scientist here. Like to code, mostly Matlab, but thinking about switching to something more open. Don't quite like Python (hate the fact that you need a library for simpla maths already... but maybe thats because I'm too used to Matlab), tend towards Julia (which has less of the stuff I dislike about Python anyone else tried Julia? ) Most of my code is gait stability related, although we also have developed quite the toolkit for 3d kinematics and kinetics (but I need to convince people to make this publicly available). Let me know if you want to know more about me.. |
Hello everyone, my name is Tom, I'm a Clinical Scientist in the Gait Laboratory at Queen Mary's Hospital (Roehampton). I saw Dimitra's presentation at CMAS and think this project is an excellent idea. Currently I use VBA to write (messy) scripts for electronic data collection in gait sessions but have used Matlab a lot in the past. I'm keen to do more coding and develop my skills and would be happy to share anything that the community might find useful. |

Hi everyone, I'm Mark Elliott, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Digital Healthcare, WMG, University of Warwick in the UK. I am interested in a number of aspects of movement analysis. I am also theme lead for data analytics in the OATech Network (https://www.oatechnetwork.org/), where we are currently investigating opportunities on how to combine data across groups and disciplines in osteoarthritis research to allow data driven analyses and modelling. As part of this we are looking specifically at the feasibility of developing tools that will allow multiple 3D motion capture gait analysis datasets to be combined from different groups to develop much larger datasets that could be used for machine learning and modelling. Get in touch if you wish to find out more or you are able to share anonymised gait datasets for this project. The CMAS open code project sounds a great initiative towards achieving this goal - thanks for setting it up! |
Hi Mark, welcome!! ❇️ Combining movement analysis data sets for machine learning is a great goal (and I am very interested in this myself). The Mobilize Center (based in Stanford) are working on something similar - I know them quite well and they are very supportive of the CMAS open code project. What sort of code could we develop to support this? Anonymising C3D files would definitely help... If you think of anything else (e.g. convert data to a particular format?) you could create a new issue, and the community could work on it 😃 Next week May 20-24 is a great time to interact with others on this project, as we are participating in the Mozilla Sprint for Internet Health. Hi, I'm Caroline. Like Neil I work in ORLAU at the RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry (UK). I am a clinical engineer and also hold an academic post at Keele University. I'm keen to work with code (both using it and writing it). I struggle to get the time I need to get stuck in to coding so I'm also interested in what we can share. I think this platform has great potential to assist in clinical services and research. |
Hi! I'm Martin, Clinical Scientist at the Derby gait lab. We collect our 3d data using a BTS system but all our processing is done in Visual 3d. My coding experience is largely through building and editing modelling and pipeline processing scripts for this over the last 10 years. It's also been very useful for processing of the data required for CMAS QA tests. We also manage and maintain our patient database in MS access so I've learned bits and pieces of coding from adding in features to the database over time. I'm not sure how many other labs use Visual 3D extensively but I'd be very interested to make contact with those who do and maybe we can exchange ideas. |

Back in the day, I used to code in Fortran77 (Delft Shoulder and Elbow Model); these days I mostly use (the results) from other people's code. I'm interested in movement analysis in particular of the upper limb; at the moment we are looking at improving FES for the upper limb in spinal cord injury, and understanding more about shoulder instability. I just created my first issue (#20) and am mentioning that just as an excuse to put another link in this post. Do I get extra points for that? 😀 |

My name is Rosti, I am an engineer and currently working as a postdoctoral research associate at Keele University with @ekjchadwick and @dblana. You can find details of my current post-doc project here. Previously, I have used Matlab for optimisation process and other analysis. I will transfer these Matlab codes to Github at some point. Hello, my name's Fraje. I'm a PhD student at UCL, based at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. I'm using Visual 3D to build models and write pipelines to analyse motion capture gait data. I'm very gradually teaching myself to use Matlab for data analysis. I'm a complete beginner to both programmes. I'd be interested to talk to others using Visual 3D if there's anyone on here :) |

Hello everyone 😄, My name is Cleveland and I am interested in locomotion and postural control/balance, mainly in the context of prosthesis users at the moment. I have used Visual3D extensively for a number of years now (happy to chat/email @frajewatson and @Martin-Derby). I am looking to challenge myself by (re-)learning some coding skills and (hopefully) improving research by sharing outcomes. |

Ill be at ISPGR in Edinburg! Always great to put names to faces!! :). Regarding MOS: have used in the past, have some theoretical problems with it, prefer Foot Placement Estimator, for which I promised to put code online... will do so after my holiday (and ISPGR). :) |

Hi @frajewatson and @SjoerdBruijn 😃 Unfortunately, I am not at ISPGR, I have never attended but I am starting to think I might/should! I have/do use MOS and have implemented these analyses in V3D for both overground and treadmill walking. Happy to share them and/or chat about this or anything? Are either of you in/around Nottingham when travelling for ISPGR? @SjoerdBruijn I have been reading some of your work a lot recently so I am interested in hearing your thoughts on MOS and foot placement estimator. |

It's mostly bits and pieces to streamline processing and presentation of clinical gait analysis data. I mostly code in VBA and Python but have also dabbled with batch files and Matlab (although we tend to avoid this due to limited licences). I've had a go at using both the Vicon Nexus Python SDK and the BTK functions. I have no formal training in coding and so I assume that my scripts are unnecessarily long and inefficient - but hey - they work! So I've got a few bits of code that might be useful to share - mostly to add functionality to Nexus e.g. making quick editable copies of trials. I also have some experience of muculo-skeletal modelling using OpenSim gained from my PhD. I'm looking forward to seeing how this CMAS code sharing project progresses and I'm booked on the Oswestry coding course in September so hopefully might meet some of you there! |

@SjoerdBruijn I'd also be interested in your views on the MOS & foot placement estimator ! Maybe we could chat at ISPGR? @clevelandbarnett I'm using a treadmill for analysis and would be very interested in how you've calculated MOS. I'm confident in my results, but think there's probably a more elegant way of getting there. I'm new to V3D this year so it's been developed during my learning curve! Maybe we should open another "Issue" so as not to spam this one :) |
@frajewatson Happy to meet up at ISPGR. I see we're also connected on twitter, so we can use DM there to arrange a meetup. @clevelandbarnett most of my thoughts on MOS and FPE are in my recent review on foot placement. I did a seminar on this at ESMAC in Trondheim (2017?) as well, which unfortunately was not recorded. If you'd be interested in picking my brain on this, we can always have a skype chat, or, you are free to visit Amsterdam anytime. (Unfortunately, I won't have time to travel to Nottingham during my ISPGR travels). |

I have done my PhD in a gait laboratory in a rehabilitation clinic in Luxembourg (REHAZENTER) and worked two years as an engineer in a similar laboratory at the Dijon Universitary Hospital. Now my main focus is to act as a support for clinicians (and researcher) from our lab or associated with our lab on everything concerning motion analysis from experimental design to scientific valorisations. I code as an ''engineer'' : it works but can be quite ugly (or inelegant).I both write code but when some exist I am very happy to use it. And to finish I would say that the coding is the most ''fun'' part of my job.
